Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, and now residing in the Auburn area, Leslie Brasher earned a degree in graphic design at Auburn University. Although she worked in graphic design for a number of years, when she quit her job at Auburn University to home school her son, she began to fit painting into her schedule.
She finds great enjoyment in painting with watercolors, and loves to sketch or paint just about anything, but especially the beauty she sees around her. She enjoys painting nature from life – using fresh flowers as inspiration or sitting in a shady spot and painting the view before her. She loves to travel and paint, and her style is representational.
Leslie is a member of the Alabama Plein Air Artists, a group that travels around the state to paint together several times each year. Her greatest desire is to glorify God with her artwork, and she prays that by painting the beauty of His creation she is pointing viewers toward the Creator, and ultimately toward salvation through Christ.

I’ve drawn and painted for as long as I can remember and enjoyed watercolors since high school. Through the years I’ve been blessed to be asked to do many watercolor portrait and home commissions, earned a degree in art and worked as a medical illustrator and at several ad agencies as a graphic designer and illustrator. When my daughter started school I painted murals for businesses and private homes. That continued for 15 years and the highlight was getting to go on two mission trips to Guatemala to paint murals in an orphanage. Eventually I had to give up murals and stick to smaller paintings due to a neck issue. I discovered plein air painting and APAA which led me to trying oils for the first time. Now I enjoy painting watercolor, gouache and oils for pleasure. This art journey has truly been a blessing and I’m thankful for God’s provision of jobs throughout my art career.

I have a BA degree in Fine Art from Auburn University. I have studied under renown masters, like Daniel Greene and John Howard Sanden. After fifteen years of portraits by commission, I began to research plein air painting with Roger Dale Brown in 2009 at Children's Harbor on Lake Martin and with Gil Dilenger in on the Northern Cliffs of California, and in 2021 with Craig Nelson in The Dolomites and Venice Italy.
Today I am retired from the family business and have returned to life as an artist enjoying and appreciating life.

Although Etta has lived in Alabama 40 years, she grew up in southern Indiana.
Early on she was fascinated to learn about the early Plein air artists of Brown County,IN. They started in the early 1900’s around the same time Monet and his atelier were Plein air painting in France. She often returns to visit TC Steele’s home, gardens & studio that were donated to the state of Indiana. Etta works in oil, watercolor, gauche, acrylic, pen & ink & pencil.

My career as a French teacher took a sharp turn upon hearing the words “you’re having twins” just six weeks before the due date. Later on in order to escape toddler mayhem, I found an art class on drawing portraits which I thought to be an impossible task but one worth pursuing given my built-in adorable subjects.
Ever curious, I explored portraiture in every possible medium - Pencil, watercolor, oil, acrylic, charcoal, and clay. A focus on oil painting led to the joys of painting out in the open or “en plein air” especially in my current home state of Alabama.
Ever curious I have pursued a love of abstract painting and most recently encaustic painting which fits in nicely with my beekeeping hobby since the principal medium is beeswax!
Everyone views art from a unique perspective. When you see my work, I hope you feel the underlying sense of adventure and curiosity.

Robin has lived in several states, but North Alabama roots keep her grounded. Especially inspired by ordinary views from the side of a road, she looks for nobility in the everyday scenes we encounter. Her southern landscapes draw us into the excitement and mystery of light and shadow, bringing to life that delicate time of day that is so fleeting. Robin participates in all possible Alabama Plein Air Artist events, and learns from each artist there. Her works are found at Dragonfly Gallery in Fayetteville, Tn, and Kathleen's Fine Art in Decatur Al.

An artist who grew up on a farm in Shelby County and enjoyed exploring the outdoors. She began sketching at an early age and later attained a degree in Art and Interior Design from Judson College. After years working as a designer she was approached by a client to paint a mural ,after she mentioned that she painted. This ignited her desire to paint again and she soon found herself enjoying the physical creation process. She continued several years to create murals and custom finishes for clients. In 2005 her husband accepted a position with his company in North Carolina. After settling into her new home, she enjoyed exploring the Greensboro area she was inspired to paint again. This time she chose her first love watercolor . She joined the Watercolor Society of North Carolina and the Alabama Watercolor Society. Within 4 years she had paintings accepted into both societies' shows (3 times) and had attained Signature status in each. Since 2010 she has won numerous national awards and a 1st place in WSNC Exhibition 2016. The most recent award was 3rd place in the 80th National Exhibition of the Watercolor Society of Alabama’s 2021show. As fate and time would have it she and her husband relocated/ retired to her home farm in Shelby county. She continues to work primarily in watercolor or acrylic for her studio work, but is enjoying working with oils in Plein air. She states-“ My journey with oils is just beginning. I love to explore new mediums and hope I never stop learning. I want viewers of my artwork to experience my awe of our natural world. My background in advertising taught me to find the “essence of place" in front of me so I work to paint that focus. If I can share some of my love for the special outdoor places, here in Alabama and elsewhere, then I have succeeded.
Bio: Born in Decatur, Alabama, Gail graduated cum laude with an art degree from Mississippi University for Women. During a successful 35-year advertising career, she was an award winning graphic designer as well as an account manager. She is currently pursuing her first love of painting full time (and is attempting to improve her guitar and ukulele skills part time!)
Melissa Root

Alabama native Melissa Moore Root admits to enjoying drawing and cartooning in school when she should have been listening.
Eventually, Melissa’s artistic preoccupation enabled her to earn a BFA from Auburn University, concentrating in drawing and printmaking. With an eye toward making a living, she also took technical courses that led to work as graphic designer. Working as an art director in advertising and public relations in and around Mobile, she was active in the Ad Federation, winning several citations and awards. From time to time, she has taught graphic design at Spring Hill College and the University of South Alabama.
Although her pursuit of “fine art” took a backseat until her daughter went to college, Melissa’s creative zeal lived on. A workshop taught by Robert E. Frank ignited an enthusiasm for pastels, and Mr. Frank graciously took her on as a private student. Melissa has since benefited from pastel workshops with Nancy King Mertz and Sally Strand.
Most recently Melissa enjoys painting in oil and pastel. She now admits to having drunk the plein air “Kool-aid” and participates enthusiastically in plein air events across the Gulf Coast.
