WELCOMES YOU!
WELCOMES YOU!
It literally means painting outdoors! The artist can capture the changing details of light and weather, compared to static studio conditions. It's known for loose brushwork and softness of form. As a general rule of thumb, 80% is completed Outdoors and 20% indoors.
Enjoying nature's sights and sounds with fellow artists! Plein air requires quick composition and brushwork. The paintings reflect the essence of the scene, resulting in an impressionistic style. Some complete their work on site and others finish in their studio, using photos and visual memory for the scene.

Generally, we have one or two paint outs each month throughout Alabama, from March through early November. July and August are often too hot.
Locations vary according to members willing to host. We are always looking for new scenes to paint. Some areas we have painted in Birmingham are Aldridge Gardens, Botanical Gardens, Highlands, and Railroad Park. North Alabama locations are Hamilton and Mentone. South Alabama locations we have painted are Eufala, Gulf Shores, and Fairhope. Central Alabama locations we have painted are Selma and Pike Road.
Are you looking for a way to connect with other artists? Are you looking for great outdoor painting locations with a group? Send us a message about your interest to join, and we will get back to you soon!
