ALABAMA PLEIN AIR ARTISTS (APAA) Paint-Out Guidelines

A Paint-out is a 1 to 2-day plein air painting excursion at a location determined by the hosting APAA member. These events usually take place on a Friday and Saturday. Non-members may come as a one-time guest of a member, with approval of the host.

Paint-outs are planned at the end of each year (November 1 – December 15) by members. Date(s) are reserved, on a first-come, first-served basis, by December 15. Paint-outs are usually scheduled for the second or third weekend of the month.

APAA Paint-out Calendar (member hosted paint-outs are in red), is located on the members only, APAA website alabamapleinairartists.com and closed group on facebook, Alabama Plein Air Artists, Official Page. The calendar may also list other plein air painting opportunities extended to APAA membership. If an organization is interested in hosting our group, the calendar may be shared with them, with a board member’s approval. There will only be one event for each date listed.

• Paint-outs may be cancelled or rescheduled due to inclement weather, as deemed necessary by the host.
• Membership will be notified by emails and/or text messaging. All members will receive an email when a paint-out is open for registration. A courtesy deadline for registration will be included. Notification is also placed on the APAA private Facebook page.
• Artists may participate in either one or both days of a two-day paint-out. Artists must notify the host what days they will participate in for planning and safety reasons. As a courtesy, please notify your host as soon as possible if you are unable to attend.
• Check-in is required at each paint-out (location designated by host). Text messages will be sent in case of emergency or change of plans. Please note that cell service may not be available at all locations.
• Paint-outs are at the expense of the artist. Hosts do not provide any provisions except for maps, if applicable. Wear your official APAA name tag. Artists are responsible for their own water, snacks and/or lunch at the painting location. Artists are responsible for their transportation, plein air gear, setting up (be mindful of terrain), accommodations, and any meals.

A Pop-up Paint-out is a one-day plein air painting opportunity at a location determined by the hosting member. APop-up may be held during the week and is often a spur of the moment occurrence. Members will often receivenotification of pop-up paint-outs through email, but can be through social media only. These may or may not beplaced on the annual APAA calendar due to short notice.
